This module has been designed to provide information that will serve as a foundation to help you better understand the other technology units in this series. You will also gain knowledge that will help you in the applications of technology in special education, whether you are preparing for a career in special education, general education, or an area of related services.

Three lessons make up this module. The first lesson addresses basic terms and concepts that are important for an understanding of technology and its potential for people with disabilities. The second lesson presents a theoretical model that can be used when making decisions about technology applications for students who are enrolled in special education programs and adults who may be receiving rehabilitation services. The third lesson focuses on ways in which the knowledge you learn in lessons 1 and 2 can be applied. It also provides opportunities for you to use technology to discover additional information about special education in general, and technology in particular. You also will learn how to design a technology professional development plan that you will be able to revise and refine as you pursue your professional career.
